Our story

Not a kennel.
A family.

We are the Spears — a family in Hunt, Arizona, near the Petrified Forest. We breed AKC-registered American Akitas out of a genuine love for the breed, not as a business first and a family second.

Our dogs live in our home. They camp with us, they swim Lake Powell, they sleep in the trailer. That's the life we want our puppies raised for, and that's the temperament we look for when we match them to their forever homes.

How we raise them

Every litter is born in our home, weaned at their own pace, and handled daily by family and close friends. Puppies stay with their mother until at least eight weeks.

Around four weeks, we transition them to Victor Hi-Pro Plus — the same food we feed our adult dogs. When a puppy is ready to leave, they go with a hand-assembled care package of everything we'd want them to have for the first weeks in their new home.

Pricing & placement

Pet price is $1,600. With breeding rights, $1,850. A deposit is required to reserve.

We prefer local pickup at our home, where we can meet you and answer every question in person. Shipping is available case-by-case with our approval — the American Akita is a serious breed, and we want to know where every puppy is going.

The breed

American Akitas are dignified, loyal, and deeply bonded to their families. They are not for everyone. They are protective, intelligent, and independent — a dog that requires a committed owner, early socialization, and genuine partnership.

If you're new to the breed, we're happy to talk you through what a lifetime with an Akita looks like. If you've owned one before, you already know.
